Some
auto repair shops in your area that provide specialized auto repair
services such as speedometer repair may also be able to repair digital
odometers. If you can't find local truck or car repair shops that
perform speedometer - odometer repairs, then you should try to locate a
reputable odometer
repair shop in your area. These shops specialize in repairing broken
odometers, both digital (electronic) and analog (with odometer gears.)
They will have the special auto repair equipment and software needed to
quickly identify the problem and repair it for only a fraction of
the cost charged by dealers for an odometer replacement or a new
instrument cluster.
Specialty repair shops normally
charge around $150 - $200 to repair the odometer (assuming
that you
remove the instrument cluster and take it or ship it to the repair
shop.)
While
this option will save you considerable money compared
with the dealer's standard cluster replacement, you will have to
remove the instrument panel yourself, and if there are no local car
repair shops that can repair it, you will have to ship it to the repair
shop. You will then have to reinstall the repaired instrument panel
after the repair is
completed. (Click here for guidance removing the instrument cluster.)
During this entire repair process, your vehicle will be
out of service – most likely for several days or weeks, depending
on two-way shipping times and the backlog of the repair shop.
This
is not the most convenient option unless you have a second
vehicle to drive during the repair, or you've been looking for a good excuse to get more
exercise and simply want to walk everywhere for the next few weeks
instead of driving your vehicle.
