Audi Quattro Odometer Repair

Well maintained engines used in the 1989 - 1990 Audi Quattro typically continue to perform reliably well beyond 300,000 miles. It is not surprising that less robust parts of the vehicle may wear out or break during it's expected service life. One of those parts has proven to be the odometer. As they age, the plastic gears in the odometer become brittle and result in broken teeth. These missing teeth prevent the odometer from working. If your odometer has stopped working on your 1989 or 1990 Audi Quattro, you basically have three options to restore the odometer to working status:

1989 Audi 80 Quattro(1) You can take it to a speedometer repair shop for repairs. Most repair shops charge around $150 to repair the problem.

(2) You can replace your instrument cluster with a used instrument cluster at a swap meet or salvage yard. The cost should be considerably less than option number  1.  However, since this odometer failure is so common due to aging odometer gears, there is no way of knowing whether the used cluster might have the same problem, or how long it might work before it fails due to the age of the components.

(3) If you like to save money or just enjoy fixing things yourself you can easily  fix it yourself. If you need additional help, you might want to ask the experts at 2CarPros any questions your might still have about how to fix it....
