1984 Volkswagen Vanagon
After months of thinking that his 1984 Vanagon odometer didn't work
because of a broken or worn-out gear, Brian finally decided to see if he could learn
which gear had gone bad so that he could look for a replacement gear. When he disassembled the odometer, he found that no gears were worn
out. The problem turned out to be that one gear was simply slipping on its shaft. If
you have a 1984 Vanagon or other vintage Volkswagen from the same era,
perhaps Brian's detailed repair procedure will help you fix your own
odometer too.
